Wednesday, zoooooooup!

When we brought the Babe home on Halloween, we knew that the hearing date loomed before us threateningly.. like the Black Gate around Mordor, harboring the only hope to a happy ending, but not revealing the struggles to reach, or the certainty of an end.

Mostly, I was able to ignore the movement of days. It was such a joy to have her home, to have time off, to be able to focus on the three of us, being together. I didn’t even take a lot of pictures. And you know I wasn’t writing. Maybe I was subconsciously trying to soak it all in without focusing on the future.

But now it’s January and I feel like I can’t ignore the march of days any more. I have started counting..

Quite a different sort of counting than ticking off days until Christmas. Instead of gathering and assembling presents and goodies and good cheer, wishing the days will only more more quickly, I’m only praying for one gift: that she can stay.

The hearing is on the 27th. Only 23 days away. Just over three weeks–that seems impossible.

How did the time pass so quickly?

How much longer will be able to enjoy her vibrato laughter and her lightning-fast crawling?

I don’t know.
